Fly-in safaris from Zanzibar

Already on Zanzibar and want to see Tanzania's wildlife? A short flight takes you from the beach to the bush.

Acacia trees on the Serengeti plains

Domestic flights connect Zanzibar with Arusha, and with some of the airstrips in the Serengeti. That lets you swap a long road journey for a short flight, and spend your time on game drives instead. Schedules and routings change by season and airline, so we confirm the flights when we plan your trip.

How it works

  1. You fly from Zanzibar (ZNZ) to Arusha, or to an airstrip in the Serengeti, usually in the morning.
  2. Your driver-guide and 4x4 meet you on arrival, so there is no waiting around for a transfer.
  3. You spend two to four days on safari, for example Tarangire and Ngorongoro, or the Serengeti.
  4. You fly back to the coast, or on to your international flight.

Things to plan for

  • Small aircraft have strict luggage limits, often a soft bag of around 15 kg. Tell us what you are bringing.
  • Flights can be delayed by weather, so avoid tight international connections on the same day.
  • If you are combining beach and bush, finish with the beach so that you can relax before the flight home.

When to go

June to October is dry in both places. January and February are hot on the coast and good for the southern Serengeti. See the guides to the best time for a safari and the best time for Zanzibar.
